Curing Blindess Around the World

The Value of Vision

Vision, the most dominant and valued of our senses, plays a critical role in every facet and stage of our lives. Without vision, we struggle to learn, walk, read, work, feed ourselves and take care of ourselves and others. This disability leads to a severely diminished quality of life and loss of productivity, often leading to ostracism, anxiety, depression, and hopelessness.

The Situation

The Global Burden of Blindness: Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness around the world. According to 2020 statistics, 17 million people were blind from cataracts and another 84 million suffered from moderate to severe vision loss. The World Health Organization reported that only 17% of people with vision impairment from cataracts have access to appropriate surgical services.

Addressing the Problem Head-On

Humboldt Eye Foundation was founded by Dr. Michael Mizoguchi and Dr. Mustafa Safi to facilitate the delivery of surgical services to people suffering from vision loss due to cataracts and pterygia in underserved areas around the world. We coordinate and sequester the equipment, materials and staff required to deliver quality surgical services in challenging environments.

Please join us and make a profound difference by supporting our effort to provide vision-restoring surgery, and to cure blindness around the world.

Your contribution makes it possible for us to conduct missions to provide cataract and pterygium excision surgery to impoverished people living in underserved areas and produce sustainable local programs that will continue to change lives and empower communities around the globe.
